Interfaith Weekend of Action for Women's Health
The Religious Institute joins a coalition of 75 faith-based and sexual and reproductive organizations in calling on religious communities to participate in an Interfaith Weekend of Action for Women's Health. Over the next two weekends (Nov. 21-22 and Nov. 28-29), congregations and communities are encouraged to preach, pray and advocate for health reform legislation that includes comprehensive reproductive health services. The coalition also is sponsoring a National Lobby Day in Washington, DC, on Dec. 2, 2009, to urge lawmakers to remove new restrictions on abortion coverage (the Stupak-Pitts amendment) from the final health care bill.
The Toolkit provided here includes a timeline of events, key messages, a sample prayer and bulletin insert for congregational use. It also includes materials to help gather signatures on a petition to be sent to the President and Congressional leaders, urging them to ensure that comprehensive reproductive health care is covered in health care reform.
